  5. On 30 April, members of the DEEA elected Norbert Lins (Germany, EPP) as their new Chair.

Norbert Lins succeeds Andreas Schwab, who resigned to assume the chairmanship of the Committee on Budgetary Control. The delegates thanked Mr Schwab for his committed work as a Chair relentlessly building bridges and fostering parliamentary cooperation with the various bodies covered by the DEEA.

Upon his election, Mr Lins pledged to build on the foundations laid by his predecessor, emphasizing a commitment to continuous dialogue and the strengthening of ties with neighbouring partner parliaments:

"I am deeply honoured by the trust my colleagues have placed in me. Cooperation with our closest European partners outside the EU has never been more vital. The EFTA states, in particular, are indispensable neighbours, partners, and allies. Amidst current geopolitical uncertainty and economic challenges, it is imperative that we nurture and further fortify these essential connections."
